BERYL SHAW’S PUBLIC SPEAKING ROLE INCLUDES:
'The Courage To Live' and Other Life Strategies
Beryl's keynote addresses deal with sometimes uncomfortable life issues. Never pulling her punches, those who love the truth find her work an inspiration, while even more timid people still revel in the way Beryl offers her insights and soon become converts. Because in her truthfulness, she is never cruel.
Beryl's life hasn't been easy, but through these very difficulties she's learned that courage is everywhere. Learned too that all too many people don't recognise courage in their own thoughts and actions. Beryl sees an important part of her mission as uncovering for each person an awareness of their own courageous thoughts and actions.
Individuals wrestling with tough times absorb the sheer reality of her message and the courage she exudes.
When speaking for businesses Beryl relates these qualities to the everyday world of the workers and the managers of these organisations, large and small. And without courage it can be hard to make some of the changes that are being required in business in the 21st century.
Beryl has lived the truth that 'No matter what your life experiences have been, even the most difficult, it is still possible to live a creative and satisfying existence.'
Her own latest Bad Experience, cancer surgery and chemotherapy, has certainly challenged her, but she finds she's come through that with new strengths and insights to offer others. This has spawned her keynote address :
Beryl ‘tells it like it is’ speaking about her experience and the experience of others on their search to find the lessons in Cancer.

Working with Cancer Patients - for Health Professionals
‘Inspirational’ Prof Cheryl Koopman, Stanford University US
‘I’m already using the ideas you gave us. Your presentation was the highlight of the day’ Nurse / Cancer Nurses Conference, Brisbane
Doctors, nurses (in the ward, chemotherapy unit, cancer support, palliative care, all sorts of places), radiologists, physiotherapists, reflexologists, chiropractors; in short every and all different types of health professionals are experts in their own field.
Beryl Shaw isn’t a health professional, but she is an expert in her own field. As a Wordsmith, as someone who has since the early 80s written well informed and insightful self help books, designed and run seminars, courses, workshops and one off public speaking presentations for people in difficulty, Beryl knows how to relate with people as they work their way through disastrous situations.
A lack of adequate communication with their health professionals is probably the thing patients and their families complain about most. It makes their lives far more complicated and difficult. Many health professionals struggle with this side of their work.
When dealing with something as potentially life threatening as cancer – and with the urgency often associated with such a diagnosis – the presence or absence of these skills can alter a patient’s whole life course.
Today we understand how tightly the mind and body interact. Decisions about treatments and the way patients see the possibilities for a future may be compromised, if precision in information giving, or an ability to bring to the surface patient’s thoughts and feelings, are not adequate. At the very least, emotional responses to illness – the absence or presence of the hope and determination to strive for a future they feel is worth fighting for – will affect the progression of disease, sometimes with fatal outcomes.
Beryl’s presentations take health professionals through a learning experience that enables them to then use an enhanced level of communication with all parties. Her methods are immediately transferable to practice. And it’s not about the time it takes. It’s about getting inside your patient’s head and heart – and knowing the words to use. This ultimately takes up less of your time. Beryl has the words. After her presentation you’ll have them too.
