ABOUT BERYL SHAW

Neither Divorce, Death of loved ones, Disease, Disaster, nor the more common Dilemmas of what to do and how to do it have kept Beryl Shaw down for long.

Although gentle and loving in her relationships, she’s always fought for the right of each person to make their own decisions. That includes her five children. It took longer to learn to stand up for herself. Many of us take a long time to learn that, don’t we?

Others see her strength, not always understanding the long journey she’s been on to become more self determining.

Beryl comes from a divorced family, where her lovely dad turned into a violent drunk. 25 years later she had to leave her husband, with four school aged children – and the dog; later divorcing – and has had many other bereavements.

Turning this around, she wrote the first Australian book by someone who’d been through these situations ‘Out Here On My Own’. Published by Fontana Collins in 1985, this book was widely acclaimed for its wisdom and reality. Four more have followed so far (see the Books page).

Beryl says ‘I’m one of those people who’s constantly tearing apart beliefs and ways of seeing, to discover if there’s a better way of doing things - or living life. I know people can always be helped to move forward, if they have the right loving guide to help them do it.’

And when you’ve been through what Beryl’s been through and helped as many people as she’s helped, you know it just has to be true, because she’s proved it.

That’s why she’s the one you want on your side when the going’s tough.

Following this trend, the next thing she did was to originate the first ever ceremonies for people who’ve experienced such traumas, so they can let go what they need to from their past and move on in happiness. They’re called ‘Another Life’ Post Divorce and Post Bereavement ceremonies.

You’d have to bet she’d then go down with life threatening cancer, wouldn’t you. Oh well.

Of course, she’s turned this into something for others too. Her latest Public Address is called ‘The Courage to Live’..

She’s a vibrant and seasoned media presence and inspires many different audiences to deal with their business or personal fears, so they can enjoy a more productive and creatively joyous life.

Beryl’s favourite saying is : ‘You’re only beaten if you don’t get up off the floor that one last time’ ©. Her own life proves it.
